Nintendo Download: Wander Into Whimsy

It’s a Wonderful week for Switch owners, with the launch of Super Mario Bros Wonder, Metal Gear Solid, Gargoyles, Hellboy, and more.

With the big release season firmly in full swing, the Switch’s first overstuffed release-week is here. That includes a whole mess of big names, though naturally Super Mario is right at the top. And of course, his latest appearance comes by way of Super Mario Bros Wonder.

Announced this past summer, Super Mario Bros Wonder has secretly been in the works for some time. It’s even been floating around that Nintendo basically told the team to take as long as they wanted with it, so it’s had a lengthy (and productive) development cycle. Pre-release word has been out of this world for the title, which shakes up the formula of what you’d expect from a traditional “Mario” game, but still keeps most of what makes the series such a timeless icon. If you’re a fan of the plumber, or just like quality platformers, it sounds like a can’t-miss.

But while Mario and crew are set to hit Switch tomorrow, there’s so much more this week than just Nintendo’s main man coming back around. For one thing, the hotly anticipated Metal Gear Solid Collection is here too, serving up the original MGS, plus parts two and three. Having portable version of any of those would be great, but all three is something very cool indeed.

Past that, there’s also the side-scrolling action title Gargoyles Remastered, which brings the 16bit Gargoyles title back with a modern recreation. Oh and don’t forget Hellboy: Web of Wyrd, a seemingly budget-priced game that looks like it popped right off of a comic book page. Want more? Well okay, how about Ghostbusters: Spirits Unleashed Ecto Edition and the Jackboot Party Pack 10?

Add in the massive collection of smaller and indie launches this week, and you have a crowded period that should provide something for just about any Switch fan. Scroll down to check the full list.
