New FPS Witchfire gets powered-up with AI, showcases NVIDIA DLSS 3 tech

Just released into Early Access, Witchfire is a dark fantasy FPS that uses the real-world techno-magic of NVIDIA DLSS 3.

The what now?

If you’re anything like us, you’re probably wondering what the heck NVIDIA DLSS 3 is. Well, you’re probably not wondering about the “NVIDIA” part, since any PC fan knows the hardware company well, but just what is DLSS 3 anyway? As it turns out, ‘pretty darned interesting’ is what it is.

Chatted about in a press release put out today Witchfire developer The Astronauts, NVIDIA DLSS 3 is a kind of ‘artificial intelligence’-powered graphics tech. And what it effectively does, is to analyze “in-game frames” of action, “pre-calculating motion flow” and constructing “intermediate frames”, according to the release. In English; “players won’t need to make a choice between high frame rate and crisp image quality for fast-paced action games like Witchfire“.

Here’s a look at the technology in action:

DLSS 3 enables DLSS Super Resolution, DLSS Frame Generation, and NVIDIA Reflex to boost performance by 2.3X, compared to native resolution, all while maintaining great image quality.

So with NVIDIA DLSS 3, players should be able to get some excellent frame rates, and have titles that make use of it look better than ever. And of course, the idea is that they’ll be able to have that without any muss and/or fuss. Pretty neat.

If you’d like to see this slick new tech in action, and simultaneously get some play time with one of the best-looking FPS’ of the fall, then remember that Witchfire is out now in Early Access. The game is out for the PC, and is exclusive to the Epic Game Store, at least for the time being.
