An open-world tactical RPG set in a medieval world, Shiro Unlimited Wartales is out now

Today’s Nintendo Direct shared more than a few surprises, including the stealth drop of the grim tactical RPG Wartales.

In the shadow of an apocalypse

If the name “Wartales” sounds familiar, it probably should. Shiro Unlimited’s tactical role-playing title has been around for a while on the PC, selling over 800,000 copies. Wartales’ world is a grim one, with a story that’s set 100 years after a deadly plague decimated its brutal-fantasy world.

It’s there that players have to recruit their own team of sellswords, and act as mercenaries taking on “battles with vicious beasts, roadside bandits, corrupt diplomats, and more.” Signing on talent and coordinating attacks are just parts of the equation though, as players will also have to pay and feed their teams, plus make sure that weapons and armor are ready to go at all times.

While PC fans have been playing this expansive adventure for some time, it’s now opened up to a whole new audience. Wartales has stealth dropped onto the Nintendo eShop today.

“As an enthusiastic supporter of Nintendo’s iconic brand, it’s a true privilege for us to collaborate with them,” said Quentin Lapeyre, Game Director, Shiro Games. “Bringing Wartales to the Nintendo Switch allows us to share our epic adventure with a fresh audience, and our team has worked diligently to create a tailored interface that enhances the immersion into the world of Wartales.”
