Nintendo Download: Action, Cloves and Magical Tomes

Disney Illusion Land makes its arrival on Switch this week, along with Double Dragon Gaiden, and a ton and half of smaller releases.

The most magical place

Disney has had a… well it’s had a kind of rough time this year. A number of the entertainment giant’s properties have had TV shows and movies that’ve fallen flat with fans and even critics. Then of course park attendance is down overall, and that’s without mentioning what’s been happening in Florida. That one’s probably better left for other websites. With all of that stuff taken into consideration, it’s a little puzzling why we haven’t seen more pre-releases hype for Disney Illusion Land.

A 4 player, 2D side-scrolling platformer, Disney Illusion Land casts players as Mickey, Minnie, Goofy, or Donald, and looks pretty great. From the trailers, it looks loaded with Disney charm and characters, and is vaguely reminiscent of the Rayman games. If not for the kinda not-Disney design sense, it’d probably be fit right in with the classic 16bit era games that also bear the company’s name.

But if you’re not feeling very “Disney”, but would still like to grab something new for your Switch, then you have a decent chance of that this week. Double Dragon also makes its triumphant return with Double Dragon Gaiden: Rise of the Dragons.

This retro beat ’em up is awash in a classic 8bit feel. But even with the respect to the classic series it expands on, it also features updated looks and sounds, plus a few modern touches like upgrades and the ability to tag out if the action gets too hot.

On top of those, there’s also the kinda-adventure game Venba, PixelJunk Scrappers Deluxe, and a tidal wave of smaller releases. As always, scroll down to check ’em all out.
