IDW adds classic Dungeons & Dragons cartoon to Saturday Morning Adventures line

Publisher IDW is turning the clock back once again, to the golden age of TV cartoons. Dungeons & Dragons heads to the Forgotten Realms this March.

Roll for initiative

No stranger to D&D comics is IDW, as the publisher has been on the fantasy kick for a while now. There was an announcement fairly recently too, with a book that will play off the movie that’s set to open next year.

So with that in mind, an expansion into the publisher’s “Saturday Morning Adventures” line is kind of an obvious evolution. The series of comics already stars the likes of G.I. Joe and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, and yes, will soon have Dungeons & Dragons as well.

And as you can see, it’s exactly the D&D you’re thinking of.

Noble ranger Hank, intrepid acrobat Diana, quiet thief Sheila, impulsive barbarian Bobby, fearful cavalier Eric, and uncertain magician Presto only want to get back to their own world. But escaping the Realms has turned out to be much harder than getting there! Danger lurks at every turn, the enigmatic Dungeon Master is less than helpful, and Venger—the force of evil—will stop at nothing to get his hands on the magical weapons that the kids have come to rely on. To top it off, Hank has made a startling discovery: Despite the dangers, Sheila, Bobby, Diana, and the others aren’t so sure they want to go home after all!

IDW press release

Dungeons & Dragons will be a 4 part mini-series, and serve as a “lost episode” to the iconic 1983 cartoon show. Brought to life by writers writers David M. Booher and Sam Maggs, as well as artist George Kambadais, you can look for Dungeons & Dragons #1 on the racks in March of 2023.
