Gungrave fans should love this one, as South Korean Studio IGGYMOB is bringing Grave’s human form, Brandon Heat, back to life. Again.
Rise from your Grave
So this one’s pretty interesting, as skins go. Not only will the just-announced “Brandon Heat” pack change the title character’s look in Gungrave G.O.R.E, but it’ll also change his abilities. And that, for those who don’t know, is because this version of the ‘hero’ is still alive.
For uninitiated, Gungrave has an… interesting story. The narrative centers on organized crime, an evil organization called Millenion, and a hitman named… Brandon Heat. Well, that and an experiment to raise said hitman from the dead once he’s wacked by Millenion, bringing him back to life as a revenant gunslinger named Grave. Pretty straightforward really.
Brandon Heat was Grave’s human form from when he was one of the top assassins of the Mafia organization Millenion. Fifteen years after his death, he was revived as Beyond the Grave (shortened down to Grave) using advanced necrolization technology and went to seek revenge on the man who killed him: his former best friend and Millenion associate Harry MacDowell.
But MacDowell didn’t just kill Brandon; he also killed his former boss and father figure, Big Daddy, in a takeover of Millenion. Big Daddy’s daughter, Mika, seeks Grave’s protection, essentially becoming his adopted daughter.
Grave then must fight his way through a city overrun by drugs, thugs, and mutated soldiers – called Orgmen – in his hunt for revenge.
IGGYMOB press release
As you can see there, the Heat skin does a little more than just change Grave’s look. Playing as Brandon also “changes all of Grave’s moves” and his abilities. So effectively, it’s almost like getting another playable character.
Now, there is a catch though, and it’s a heavy one. While the Brandon Heat skin (etc) will be available to all Gungrave G.O.R.E players, it’ll only be opened up once the game is beaten… on the hardest difficulty level. So yeah, it’s not gonna be a cakewalk.
Gungrave G.O.R.E is set to release for Xbox and PlayStation platforms, as well as the PC, on November 22nd.
