Splatoon 3 painting up the Switch this fall

Switch fans finally have a date for the latest Splatoon game, the third in the multiplayer, third-person… painter series. It arrives this September.

Painting up the town

Splatoon might not be a universally-loved shooter series, but it’s gotta be pretty close. A third-person multiplayer shooter essentially, Splatoon has been a mainstay on the Nintendo Switch from pretty early on in the console’s lifespan.

With 2 installments already in the bag, Splatoon 3 is coming up, and it’s now been announced to arrive this September. As for what it’ll bring with it, it’s looking like it’s going to be a lot of what fans already love the game for.

Namely, lots and lots of painting maps in your colors, and edging out your opponent. That’s not to say that there won’t be new elements though, as fresh levels like Eeltail Alley will set the stage for action with new hardware like the Stringer. That, if you’re unaware, is a “bow-shaped weapon type that enables you to sling ink sideways and vertically”.

As with Splatoon’s past, Splatoon 3 will also have a single player mode. That will be packed up with a brand new fight against the evil Octarians.

In addition to frantic 4-v-4 multiplayer matches, Splatoon 3 also features a fresh single-player campaign and the next iteration of the co-op Salmon Run mode. In the single-player story mode, you’ll join Agent 3 in a fight against the unruly Octarians and discover the secrets of a mysterious place called Alterna and the Fuzzy Ooze. When diving into Salmon Run, you’ll ink up with teammates** to fend off waves of dangerous Salmonid bosses, some of which are colossal in size!

Nintendo press release

Splatoon 3 is available for pre-order right now, and will arrive for Switch on September 9th, 2022.
