PS+ subscribers get A Plague Tale, BlOps 4, WWE Battlegrounds, Virtua Fighter V this month

It’s a pretty terrific month for PS Plus subscribers this month. July 2021 brings A Plague Tale, Black Ops 4, WWE Battlegrounds, and Virtual Fighter V.

Abundance

Say what you like about recent PS+ months’ offerings, but July 2021 is set to be a good one for subscribers. Not only do they get 4 solid titles to download and play for as long as they have their memberships, but 3 of the 4 are from big name franchises. And that 4th one? It’s the excellent A Plague Tale: Innocence.

A Plague Tale: Innocence

With the followup on the way, now’s as good a time as any to dig into the original A Plague Tale. Original launched in 2019, Innocence was set in dark ages France, and cast players in the roles of Amicia and her brother Hugo. The supernaturally-tinged narrative saw the pair on the run from the Inquisition, and struggling to survive in the midst of the Black Death.

A Plague Tale: Innocence launches on PS+ as the only PS5 offering of the month.

Call of Duty: Black Ops IIII

Yes, I know that’s not how you write ‘4’ in Roman numerals. The right way to do it doesn’t really matter in this case, because that’s how Activision did it. Don’t ask questions.

The long and the short of it, is that Black Ops 4 was a divisive title for the franchise, in that it was multiplayer-only. Nope, no story to this one, in any form, as Activision took a gamble on PvP play. While the multiplayer looked to be as great as ever though, the success of that play seems to have seen a final word with the launch of Black Ops: Cold War just last year. If you didn’t know, that game had a focus on narrative.

WWE Battlegrounds

Speaking of departures, Battlegrounds is every bit that, for the long-running WWE series from 2K. It’s kind of a long story how it got to that point, but basically the main series took the year off for retooling, and Battlegrounds took the stage in 2020 as its replacement.

Battlegrounds is a very different game than the standard series though. Gone are all facets of sim-like play, because Battlegrounds is 100% arcade action. Fast, and with over the top special effects, WWE 2K Battlegrounds might be a one-off, but it’s kind of a fun one. You can check out our review of the game here.

Virtua Fighter V

What’s to say about the Virtua Fighter series? Sega’s iconic fighting game series was a mainstay in the early days of the 3D fighting game revolution, and while it’s pretty much vanished, the same remains one to know.

Virtua Fighter V is probably the least remembered VF outing. Originally released in 2012, it’s might be a little long in the tooth, but it’s still a good looking brawler offering solid fighting. And hey, it’s free if you’re a subscriber, so why not give it a spin?

All of the above games are ready to roll, landing on the PS+ service on July 6th.
