The sandbox just got a little more crowded. The classic Toy Soldiers game is set to return, this time in HD form and for modern consoles and the PC.
Like Toy Soldiers…
No, this isn’t about the Martika song from the ’80s. We’re talking about Toy Soldiers, the video game, that appeared on Xbox Live back in 2010. Remember it? If you played it, you definitely do, as the title was pretty unique and plenty of fun.
It basically was built around the idea of children playing with toy soldiers. That premise was spun into gameplay that was kinda/sorta-tower defense-y (do not be put off by that). While you had to setup defense towers to protect your territory and send armies against your foes, there was one big element that separated it from all other TD games. You could actually jump into a solider’s body or a gun-emplacement (or whatever) and take the fight to the ground yourself. How cool is that?
Now Toy Soldiers is returning, with an ‘HD’ added onto its title, and it’s looking great. The game will offer first and third-person perspectives (for the on-field stuff), as well as both single and multiplayer action.
Here’s a first-look at it in action:
Ready to get back into the first Great War? Toy Soldiers HD is set to arrive on the Switch, PC, PS4, and Xbox One this August.
