The AAA market may have cleared 2018 post-Red Dead Redemption 2‘s release, but don’t count the September game releases out just yet.
Heroes Will Rise
Showing initial promise, August turned into a rather sleepy month for new releases. While games like Dead Cells and Graveyard Keeper turned into Indie darlings, August seemed littered with ports like Monster Hunter World and Yakuza 0. That looks to be continuing until late October after Red Dead Redemption 2’s release. But that’s not to say there aren’t some darlings out this September.
Going live first is the latest entry in Square Enix’s venerable JRPG series, Dragon Quest XI. Discover the mystery that awaits a young man who holds the soul of an age-old hero, banished by his king and branded a traitor. You’ll assemble a rag-tag group of companions to help you in your quest to discover your past and fight the evils before you. Unravel your past in Dragon Quest XI on September 4th.
If you’d rather spend some time in the Crucible, the latest expansion for Destiny 2 may pique your interest. Destiny 2: Forsaken’s storyline foreshadows the rise of a new threat to the Guardians, As you hunt down Cayde’s killers across the solar system, you’ll stop at nothing to put eight escaped Barons to justice. Along with the new storyline, players will gain access to new gear, powers, and the all-new Gambit PVP mode to liven their time in the game. Destiny 2: Forsaken breaks out of containment September 4th.
Perhaps the most noteworthy release this September is Insomniac’s Spider Man. exclusive to Sony’s PS4. Promising a diverse cast of Spidey’s best villains, the web-slinger’s latest escapade looks to be as encompassing as Rocksteady’s ground-breaking Batman: Arkham City. With tons of collectibles to gather and a powerful story to drive players forward, this may just be the game Spiderman deserves. Spider-Man swings into stores on September 7th.
