Don’t look now, but (actual) SNES Classic pre-orders are starting soon

Did you pre-order an SNES Classic from Walmart last week, only to see it cancelled? Well your first real chance to snag one is coming soon.

It’s happening, it’s actually happening!

If you’re like me, then you weren’t exactly holding out hope that you’d be able to grab an SNES Classic. After all, the whole NES Classic debacle is pretty fresh, as is Nintendo’s seemingly insane decision to cancel production. I mean, really. No, seriously – what the hell are you thinking Nintendo?!

Ahem

Anyway. Last week Walmart now famously put 2017’s version of the NES Classic -the SNES Classic- up for pre-order. There was a problem though. And that was that it really wasn’t available, and the pre-order posted mistakenly. Think people were mad? Oh yes.

Fast-forward to today, and Nintendo has taken to their Facebook page to announce a few things that might make the wounds from that most recent of fiascos heal a tad faster. The SNES Classic will indeed be pre-orderable, and soon.

Heres’s the skinny, right from the Big N:

We appreciate the incredible anticipation that exists for the Super Nintendo Entertainment System: Super NES Classic Edition system, and can confirm that it will be made available for pre-order by various retailers late this month.

A significant amount of additional systems will be shipped to stores for launch day, and throughout the balance of the calendar year.

Now, I honestly don’t believe Nintendo about the “significant amount of additional systems” that they say will be coming. If I remember correctly, they said something very similar last year about the NES Classic. So as far as I’m concerned, I’ll be throwing that little comment out the window.

The pre-orders though, are interesting. They’re coming up extremely late in the game, since the console is almost here, but they’re nonetheless exciting. Not to mention, that they’re the best chance you’ll have of actually getting a console that’ll probably be hotter than a Switch this holiday season.

We’ll have more as it develops, including let you know if we get some advance word on availability. In the meantime – good luck and may the Force be with you.
