Cloverfield gets a JJ Abrams Produced Sequel

After eight years, the found footage Kaiju film, Cloverfield, is getting a “blood relative.”

The trailer, released in a surprise announcement, shows what appears to be a deranged John Goodman holding  Mary Elizabeth Winstead and John Gallagher Jr. captive in an underground bunker. Towards the end, they make a break for escape, but what they find outside leaves them horrified.

In standard fashion, the trailer ends before the viewers can see the horrors awaiting the characters outside their bunker. It looks like the entire trailer likely takes place in the first minutes of the film, ending where the film looks to really pick up.

The original Cloverfield released in 2008, to mixed reception. Those who complained mentioned shaky cameras and weak characters. The film acted as a true introduction to the found footage genre for me, and I have been waiting for this apparent trailer since the credits finished rolling on the original Cloverfield back in 2008.

The film was completed mostly in secrecy, its true name being hidden from the masses until it was ready for release. The film is being produced by JJ Abrams’ Bad Robot.

10 Cloverfield Lane, directed by Dan Trachtenberg,  is scheduled for release on Mar. 11, 2016.
