If you’re going to get Devil’s Third for the Wii U, maybe get a Pro controller

Apparently, the GamePad isn’t all that ideal for playing Ninja Gaiden developer Tomonobu Itagaki’s latest action title.

It might seem kind of strange, given that Devil’s Third is a Wii U exclusive title and all, but Itagaki says skip the GamePad and get yourself a Pro Controller if you’re going to play the Auber-violent game. The famed game director, who’s also worked on such titles as Dead or Alive and Ninja Gaiden (the more current ones), says that the Wii U’s claim to fame and stock controller, the GamePad, has some serious issues that could make playing Devil’s Third a drag.

In a post on FaceBook, Itagaki said that the GamePad’s face buttons are too close together (which could lead to a lot of accidental deaths should you hit the wrong button), the sticks are too far apart and can’t give the correct feel of the battlefield to the player, and Devil’s Third is a game that’s going to have you playing for some time. He cites the heaviness of the GamePad and a problem for that last remark, though I imagine that the battery life on it is yet another stumbling block, should you want to play all day/night.

And like the director of the game, developer Valhalla Game Studio mirrored Itagaki’s concerns with some very similar statements. So if you’re thinking of getting what’s looking to be one of the Wii U’s most mature games, then you just might want to take a little advice and go for that Pro ‘upgrade’.

Devil’s Third launches for the Wii U on August 28th.
