Sony is skipping Gamescom this year!
This will be the first time that Sony doesn’t attend the world’s largest video game trade fair since its creation in 2009. They instead will focus their efforts on an international media presentation at Paris Games Week at the end of October.
Part of the reason they demurred a large press conference at Gamescom is scheduling. E3 will be a week later and Gamescom is a week earlier this year. In a statement to Gamespot, Sony also stated a later major news announcement will better benefit PlayStation and the larger video game industry.
An interesting announcement considering Sony’s past presence at Gamescom and low profile at Paris Games Week; however, people shouldn’t read too much into it.
More than likely it is a time crunch issue combined with their desire to preview bigger games closer to holiday season. Sony will likely showcase Uncharted 4 and the extra time would allow them to address an issues that may have arose at E3. Regardless, we’ll still get our PlayStation fix.
