The publisher signs a deal with Catalyst Games to adapt their popular line of superhero comics to the wonderful world of tabletop RPG’s.
“Catalyst is exceptional at what they do, and we couldn’t be happier to be working with a games publisher of their caliber on Valiant’s very first RPG. With such a skilled an enthusiastic team at the helm, we have every faith that Valiant’s first foray into the world of role-play and tabletop gaming will live up to the expectations of our fans around the world,” said Russell A. Brown, Valiant’s President of Consumer Products, Promotions & Ad Sales. “Catalyst is dedicated to doing these characters justice, and we look forward to giving our biggest heroes the gaming debut they deserve when the Valiant Universe RPG arrives later this year.”
Catalyst has been around for a good long time and had a number of hits, especially from the Cue gaming system (remember Cosmic Patrol?), which is what the very first Valiant pen and paper will be based on. And that game won;t focus on just one Valiant hero, but the entire universe as a massive RPG. Entitled Valiant Universe RPG, the game will allow gamers to play as any of the company’s big guns like X-O Manowar, Bloodshot, or Shadowman- and even villains like Toyo Harada.
You’ll also be able to play pre-set stories in the game, or make up your own as the system is extremely flexible and user-friendly. This is just the start too. While Valiant Universe RPG will be available sometime mid-year 2014, releases are being planned throughout 2015 “spotlighting a a wide array of Valiant properties”.
For Catalyst and Managing Developer Randall N. Bills, working in a comic book universe filled with heroes and villains is a dream come true:
“This is really a dream come true,” said Randall N. Bills, Managing Developer for Catalyst Game Labs. “I’ve always been a comics fan—as are most of Catalyst’ employees—and getting the chance to publish great games within a fantastic comics universe is spectacular. The fact that it’s Valiant, with its brilliant combination of heroic action and gritty realism, makes this all the more enjoyable.”
2014 will be an even bigger year for the publisher now that they’ve got a tabletop RPG on the boards too. Valiant already has a brand new series set to debut pretty much every month this year and consistently gets top honors for their book. If you haven’t tried ’em yet, might e suggest hopping on board with the Must Read Valiant label? The series, which spans several titles, is specifically designed to get new readers up to speed with fresh story arcs for already established characters. Also very much worth your time is the brand new Rai series set to launch this May from Matt Kindt and Clayton Crain.
Seriously good stuff just keeps on coming as the Valiant Comics train rolls on.
