Mojang‘s Notch confirms that they have no plans for releasing Minecraft on the Wii U. He explains that while he does love Nintendo, there’s too much to work on at the moment.
If you’re reading this, then chances are you already know what Minecraft is all about; but for those of you that don’t, it is an open world game that allows players to build just about anything they want with the use of 3 dimensional cubes. You can explore the worlds you have created, coming across all sorts of environments and hostile enemies alike. While it does seem like a logical choice to put such a game on the Wii U of all consoles, it comes as no surprise. Western publishers have largely shied away from Nintendo as of late. Most of their third party support has come from companies such as Square Enix, Capcom, Tecmo Koei, Namco and others like them.
While Notch did appear to express some love for them, this may or may not translate into actual support later on in the Wii U’s life. It is rather curious, considering Mojang is well capable of porting the game to PS4 and Xbox One next year. For now, Wii U owners will mostly have to make do with Japanese third party support such as Tecmo’s Hyrule Warriors, which comes out this summer. Others, like Bayonetta 2 and Fire Emblem x SMT are still a mystery with no clear release window.
