Harley Quinn turns hero in Injustice: Gods Among Us

It looks like some of the multiversal elements in NetherRealm’s upcoming DC Comics fighting game Injustice: Gods Among Us are starting to crop up as a heroic Harl meets up with an alternate version of the Joker.

So in the universe of Injustice, Harley becomes a hero after seeing what her ‘late’ Mr.J has done in Metropolis. With an alternate universe (just which one is questionable) Joker showing up, I have to wonder just how much the DC Multiverse figures into Injustice.

If you’re not familiar, the multiverse (which is a very real theory here in this universe, by the way) splits the DC Universe into many different realities. DC’s old Elseworlds brand was based around the theory and so were a bunch of the big events that took place under the Crisis heading.

The just announced MOBA game Infinite Crisis uses the DC multiverse as its main story point for assembling many different versions of the DCU’s heroes and villains. While that’s a very different game than Injustice, it nonetheless looks like the multiverse might be one of the main story points for both upcoming titles.

That’s something that would also help figure in all the alternate uniforms and looks, as well as ‘story missions’ that are floating around as incentives and DLC. Instead of just offering them as new ‘skins’, which would be pretty typical, the DLC might actually have story implications. That’s something that would be a pretty cool idea and would probably go over big with fans (I know it would with me).

One thing’s a definite- with the heavy tilt towards story, Injustice: Gods Among Us is definitely shaping up to be one of the more exciting fighters to come along in recent years. See just how interesting when the game goes on sale for the Xbox 360, PS3, and Wii U on April 16th.
