Loads of new stuff made its debut at SDCC this week from DC Collectibles, from some of the company’s biggest lines, including the Batman: The Animated Series collection and the not yet even released Icons line.
Before we get into the good stuff, check out this 90s style B:TAS commercial:
Fun stuff; I remember those commercials well… do they even have that kind of stuff anymore?
Well, while TV commercials for toys might not be as big, fun, and in your face as they used to be, the Batman: The Animated Series figure line definitely is. DC Collectibles has announce five new figures devoted to both that original show, as well as the follow-up program, The New Adventures of Batman. Yes, they’re essentially the same show, but the looks are a little different and that’s reflected in the toys.
On the way at some point, and joining the rest of these excellent figures, will be Commissioner Gordon, Ra’s Al Ghul, Zatanna, Etrigan, and Klarion. Most of those are pure gold and lets face it, if you’re collecting these figures now then all of the above are more than likely to find themselves added to your shelf.
As far as the Icons series, those got some awesome additions as well. Icons takes the place of the currently nonexistent retail DC Superheroes line at that magical 6″ size point, and features some excellent sculpts and characters, most of which we showed you around Toy Fair time. While SDCC didn’t see a landslide of new announcements for the line (to be fair, the first wave hasn’t even been released yet so they’re kind of all new), but there was a trio of figures that longtime DC fans are flat-out going to want.
And that’s because John Stewart as a Green Lantern, Firestorm, and Joker are all on the way. Oh and Joker is a real classic with his hat and trench coat. Love that 80s look- straight out of the superpowers era, not the Superpowers figure line mind you, but I remember a few pieces of artwork with that look from the same decade. And it’s just so cool to see that in plastic.
While those might be the expansions for the big two lines that DC Collectibles has in store for fans, there’s plenty more on the show floor in San Diego this weekend. The Batman: Arkham Knight collection has three new figures, The Flash and Arrow from DC TV will debut new toys (Reverse Flash!), and the Designer Series gets a little deeper into the work of Batman artist Greg Capullo, as well as illustrators Darwyn Cooke and Lee Bermejo.
But that’s not all. The big budget Batman v Superman movie coming in 2016 is just starting to see the wave of licensed stuff start to emerge, and DC Collectibles has three pretty awesome statues that’ll be coming to retail.
So that’s what’s at the con, in short, but here’s a video with a pretty detailed look at that stuff (just hit ‘pause’ when what you want to see pops up), and you can also scroll down to see more in the gallery below and read through the full list of what’s in the booth.
Man is there a lot of great stuff though, and I’m thinking it’s going to be a expensive year for DC fans. Well… it is for me anyway.
