Sega wants the xenomorph in Alien: Isolation to be unlike any that you’ve ever seen in a video game before. IF this latest ‘making of’ trailer is to be believed, then they’re well on their way to just that.
This all sounds really terrific, not to mention different. Survival horror games typically are not about avoiding encounters with the bad guys all together, but when they are it’s a gameplay mechanism that can be used to great effect (see Amnesia and Outlast to see why).
There’s never been an Alien game that uses this approach either, heck, there’s never been an Alien game to really even try to be a horror title first. Pretty much all of the games taking place in the classic sci-fi/horror universe have been action-based and merely included horror elements, not made them a priority. Alien: Isolation is looking to change all that and that’d certainly be a welcome development if Sega and Creative Assembly could properly pull it off.
Speaking as an Alien fan (mainly of the second film in the series, but still), I’d love to see it. Alien: Isolation is due late this year for the Xbox One/360, PS4/3, and PC.
