The Mignola-verse’s ’30s era hero, Lobster Johnson heads back into action.
Creator Mike Mignola’s Hellboy has to have one of the deepest mythologies in comics. What started out as an action/horror book has spun into a full-fledged universe with characters and spin-offs a-plenty like B.P.R.D. (which is one ofo the consistently best books on the racks), Abe Sapien and Lobster Johnson. The latter of course, doesn’t take place in the same era as the ‘Hellboy’ titles do and stretches all the way back to 1930’s America and the time just before and during WWII.
Sure Lobby has interacted with the cast of some of the other books in the line, but it’s been in the mystical sense and not in the flesh. And although he’s been seen from time to time in the pages of other books as flashback sequences, it looks like the just announced Get the Lobster will be the first book to be completely set in the character’s own time.
Storywise, there isn’t a ton of info, but it looks like the Lobster will be getting tangled up in some very interesting situations from the preview strip to the right. There’s definitely some other influence going on with those two wrestlers and Dark Horse says that the book will take the Lobster from vigilante to New York’s public enemy number one thanks to a grenade fight in the streets of the city. Yep, that sounds about right.
Coming from Dark Horse Comics and the team of John Arcudi and Mike Mignola, and with Tonci Zonjic handling the art chores; Lobster Johnson: Get the Lobster #1 will pull the pin on its first issue on February 5th. Click on the thumbnail above for a full strip-style preview.
