Go hands-on with a special prologue for Gothic 1 Remake during Steam Next Fest

Rolling right now, fans can grab “Nyras Prologue“, a specially crafted standalone chapter for the remake of the RPG classic Gothic.

Making his way

So this is especially interesting. Yes, we’re talking about a Steam Next Fest demo for Gothic 1 Remake, technically, but it’s not what you might typically be expecting out of such a thing. That’s mainly due to this not really being a ‘demo’, but instead a playable prologue for what’ll be the final Gothic 1 Remake experience.

Players won’t be playing anything that they’ll find in that final game in it, instead becoming a new character named Nyras in a standalone experience. Called “Nyras Prologue”, the demo follows the title character, a criminal who’s trying to make his way in what’s promised to be a brutal world.

Though the demo will present players with “challenging combat and an immersive world” too, THQ Nordic also wants to make it clear that “it is not representative of the full game’s depth and freedom”. So yeah, there’s unsurprisingly much more included in the Gothic 1 Remaster compared to Nyras Prologue.

Still though, the one hour quest should give players a decent taste of what’s to come from developer Alkimia Interactive.

Nyras Prologue offers an early glimpse at the world, mechanics, and atmosphere of the full remake, built in Unreal Engine 5. However, it is important to note that this experience does not feature the intended progression, freedom, simulation, and immersion that the full game will provide. Instead, it takes place in a small section of the world with a limited set of mechanics, designed to give players a first impression of the remake’s visuals and combat.

THQ Nordic press release

Gothic 1 Remaster‘s Nyras Prologue demo is avail now via Steam, as a part of Next Fest (February 24th through March 3rd). If you’re thinking about grabbing the full retail release of the game it’s based on too, then you might really want to give the demo a play. That’s because THQ Nordic says that it contains an achievement that won’t be available in the actual game’s full retail release.
