New fighters Jeff and Abore arrive today for Double Dragon Gaiden: Rise of the Dragons

Post-apocalyptic beat-em-up Double Dragon Gaiden: Rise of the Dragons has a fresh pair of playable characters today.

Level up

Maximum Entertainment and developer Secret Base’s reinvention of the all-time classic side-scrolling Double Dragon series is adding to its roster again. You might remember that the title has added post-launch heroes before, and to keep things fresh for its player base, two more are ready for action as of today.

Both characters have unique stories, and one has a history with the Lee’s. That’d be Jeff, who was a rival of the battlin’ bros, and who’s presumably looking to show Billy and Jimmy that he’s got what it takes in cleaning up NYC. As for Abore, he’s a powerhouse and former military, who might be more than just a man.

JEFF
A childhood rival of the Lee brothers, Jeff trained alongside them in the martial art Sōsetsuken. But as his skills lagged behind, jealousy grew. Determined to surpass Billy and Jimmy, Jeff abandoned his noble path and embraced the streets, merging Karate with Sōsetsuken to develop a dangerous, unpredictable fighting style.

ABORE
A massive ex-soldier with a stoic demeanor, Abore fights with raw power and unwavering calm. His incredible strength and resilience have led some to wonder: is he a man, or something more? The quiet brawler offers no answers, only crushing blows.

Maximum Entertainment press release

Both Jeff and Abore are ready to roll into your copy of Double Dragon Gaiden: Rise of the Dragons as of today, but there’s even more to come. Maximum Entertainment says that an additional six playable characters are en route for the game, and will land some time later this year.
