Crossing franchises, Fatal Fury and King of Fighters star Mai Shiranui has officially landed for Capcom’s latest Street Fighter title.
Number 2 on the list, number one in your heart
For those who don’t know, Mai Shiranui is the second guest star to make an appearance in Capcom’s long-lived Street Fighter franchise. And no, we don’t mean specifically in Street Fighter 6, but in any Street Fighter game. The first arrived earlier this year, with Terry Bogard, who hails from the same SNK series’ as Mai. As great as Terry is though, we can’t help but feel like Mai is a much bigger addition.
She’s not only one of SNK’s premier characters, but one of the most well-known fighting game combatants in general. So yeah, this crossover is kind of a big deal. As of today too, fans who own a copy of Street Fighter 6 can buy in to add Mai to their rosters.
History will be made on the streets as SNK’s fiery kunoichi Mai Shiranui joins the roster of Street Fighter™ 6 starting today across PlayStation®5, PlayStation®4, Xbox Series X|S, and PC via Steam! As the second-ever guest character in Street Fighter™ history, players can bring a new flavor to battles with Mai’s look and movelist inspired by a variety of SNK classics that are now intertwined with the Street Fighter 6 universe. Check out Mai across all three game modes, including fighting fierce battles in Fighting Ground, discovering Mai as the newest Master in World Tour, and using Mai’s iconic moves in avatar battles in Battle Hub!
Capcom press release
Mai and more
As mentioned, Mai can be added to Street Fighter 6 by way of an a’la carte purchase, using Fighter Coins. That’s not the only way to get her into the action though, as those who have the Year 2 Character Pass or Ultimate Pass already have access and can grab a download. Mai comes complete with one outfit, but has a second as well, which you can see in the trailer.
Outfit 1 is more akin to her classic duds and comes with the character, while Outfit 2 is reflective of her look in SNK’s forthcoming fighter, Fatal Fury: City of the Wolves. That one is a separate purchase, which you can get with Fighter Coins or by “maxing out your bond with Mai in World Tour”, according to Capcom.
It’s also worth noting that a bunch of new additional updates have landed for Street Fighter 6 today too. Those include new Master League Ranks and Rewards, quality of life additions like new replay features and “Match Restore” in Custom Rooms, and Battle Director Woshige’s arrival for the Battle Hub. He’s now a special V-Rival, and can be battled as Luke, Cammy, or Akuma. Beat him and you’ll get a “special emote and challenger screen illustration”.
