Marvel’s Alien: Romulus tie-in comic arrives in October, sheds light on specific mystery

The next film in the Alien series is coming up next month, and apparently it’s set to leave fans with a “lingering mystery”… until October.

Filling in the gap

In one way, yeah you want your movies to tell a complete story, but in another, leaving some things mysterious does extend stories. And it opens up popular films for additional forms of storytelling to swoop in and expand upon. Not that the Alien mythos needs any further expansion at this point, but it’s still kinda neat that fans are going to get more of Alien: Romulus than just what’s going to be seen on the silver screen.

The up coming one-shot comic, Alien: Romulus #1, is official as it gets too, and was made in conjunction with the writers of the film, Director Fede Alvarez and Rodo Sayagues. Writer Zac Thompson will take it from there though, along with artist Daniel Picciotto. And while we don’t know what the “lingering mystery” that Marvel says will be the focus of the comic, we do know that it will serve as prequel to the movie.

Marvel expounds just a tad, saying that the one-shot will tell a tale that provides “an illuminating backstory behind the film’s main threat”.

“The Alien franchise is responsible for my lifelong love of body horror, so needless to say, I’m ecstatic to be contributing a small piece to the canon,” Thompson shared. “Working with Fede Alvarez to craft a prequel to Alien: Romulus was a genuine dream come true and a responsibility I don’t take lightly. The result is a thrilling, terrifying story that slowly gestates into something wholly unpredictable.”

Marvel Comics press release

Alien: Romulus #1 will land on the racks this October the 16th, but again you’ll be able to catch the actual movie in theaters way before that. Watch for the latest trip through space-based horror to land on August 16th.
