Five issue Wolverine mini-series to get special bloody Red Band edition

Just like with Blood Hunt, Marvel Comics is getting gory with the upcoming Wolverine: Revenge mini from Capullo and Hickman.

He’s the best there is

What do you think of Marvel Comics’ latest big crossover, Blood Hunt? In specific, what do you think of the “Red Band” editions of those books, that borrow the tag from bloody movie trailers? If you aren’t familiar with the publisher’s effort, Red Band books are bloodier, gorier versions of titles on the racks, complete with “exclusive pages” and contained within polybags (to shield ” innocent eyes”). Well, if you’re into that, then you’re going to love what’s on tap for Wolverine: Revenge.

A five issue mini-series that will put Logan up against some of his greatest foes, Wolverine: Revenge will come to readers from the team of Jonathan Hickman and returning (to Marvel) artist Greg Capullo. Fans will know both of those names well, with Hickman having helmed the Krakoa age of the X-Men, and Capullo having been an absolute superstar artist for a whole mess of labels, including DC Comics. While he has been doing some Marvel Comics stuff here and there over the last few months, this’ll be his first complete title.

And yeah, it’s sounding like it might be a good time for Wolverine fans. In the book, the hero will go toe to toe with the likes of Sabretooth, Omega Red, Deadpool, and more. And apparently that “and more” will include some big, toothy dinosaurs.

“I’ve finally returned home to Marvel, and I’m ready to raise some Hell. And, who better to do that with than the Hitman Hickman?” Capullo told Polygon, who also shared an exclusive preview. “To celebrate, Marvel has removed the fences and let us off our leash so that we can bring the most vicious and punishing Wolverine story possible to the fans this summer. I hope they’re prepared.”

“Well, obviously it’s such a privilege to get to work with a legend like Greg,” Hickman added. “When we first talked about the project, our number one concern was taking the readers on a high-octane, no-hold-barred Wolverine story that was a proper celebration of both the character and Greg returning to Marvel. And like he said, the bosses cut us loose and the result is an absolutely wild book. Honestly can’t wait for everyone to get to check it out.”

Marvel Comics press release

Wolverine: Revenge #1 (of 5), both the standard and Red Band editions, will arrive on the stands on August 21st, 2024.
