Another new PoP? Ubisoft and Evil Empire deliver The Rogue Prince of Persia in May

Hot on the heels of the last release, Ubisoft and developer Evil Empire are cooking up another original take on Prince of Persia.

You rogue you

Not a dream, not an imaginary tale… there is, in fact, another new and original take on Prince of Persia incoming just a few months after the last one. This time the name of the game is The Rogue Prince of Persia, and fans of side-scrolling action should recognize the developer. None other than Evil Empire, the team behind Dead Cells, is taking the lead on what looks like a gorgeously-animated reinvention.

Much like with the developers hit, The Rogue Prince of Persia will be (as the name hints) a roguelite affair, with m multiple biomes for players to engage with. The title finds the lead hero in the city of Ctesiphon, capital of the Persian Empire. Things are not fine and dandy though, as the Huns are threatening the citizenry, this time with a full assault that’s backed by dark magics.

Armed with his incredible skills and his own magic bola that resurrects him every time he dies, it’s up to the Prince to put a stop to these invaders once and for all. Expect acrobatics galore, plenty of heroics, and some sharp graphics that look like they could be a Saturday morning cartoon.

The Rogue Prince of Persia is set in a fictional rendition of Ctesiphon, the capital of the Persian Empire. The city faces invasion by the Hun’s army of possessed soldiers, led by the malevolent Hun chief, Nogai. Players will embody the Prince, who was gifted with a mystical bola that resurrects him each time he dies. This magical artifact has let him take huge risks to perfect the skills of acrobatics & combat in his youth, molding him into a formidable warrior. In attempt after attempt, players must help the Prince explore different biomes, master new weapons, equip new trinkets, upgrade his gears at the Oasis and rally his allies to save the city from destruction.

Ubisoft press release

You might’ve noticed that the wall-run is included in that trailer, and yes the iconic maneuver is indeed a big part of The Rogue Prince of Persia’s action. Players will reportedly have to master it and a host of other acrobatic moves, in conjunction with what sounds like an impressive amount of attach options if they want to succeed. Ubisoft says that the Prince won’t be just limited to daggers, but will wield everything from spears and broad swords, to brutal axes in his quest.

Featuring a rocking soundtrack by ASADI, The Rogue Prince of Persia is coming to Early Access on May 14th. Yes, that’s right, Early Access. The Rogue Prince of Persia will debut exclusively on Steam’s EA platform, before presumably making its way to consoles as well, for a full retail launch somewhere down the road.
