Behold the last ride of Johnny Blaze on the cover of Ghost Rider: Final Vengeance #1

The original Ghost Rider is about to rev up for one last ride (again), and we’ve got the first look at Greg Capullo’s cover.

Hellfire and brimstone

Yes, you read the headline right. Marvel Comics is about to give the hellfire back to Johnny Blaze one more time, for another ‘final ride’ as Ghost Rider. While that theme is a little ragged at this point, this time around is admittedly a little different than in the past

Cover art from Greg Capullo

That’s because Blaze’s last turn will lead into a totally new host for the Spirit of Vengeance. That intro will be in the pages of a fresh ongoing, but one that will tie right into Ghost Rider: Final Vengeance. It’s a bit of a complicated situation, but it seems that we might be talking about the original Spirit here, Zarathos, and that he’s about to bound to a very willing (and not very nice) character.

Marvel is hinting that this will be a known denizen of the Marvel U, though the publisher is also saying fans will have to wait a little longer to find out who. As you can see here though, that’s not the case with the cover illustration to Final Vengeance #1.

From artist Greg Capullo, the cover shows a Blaze who’s reflecting both a little of his classic look and a little of Danny Ketch’s fan-favorite 90s Rider. Along with Capullo’s awesome art style, it’s a pretty great look that is most definitely an eye-catcher.

WHO IS THE NEW SPIRIT OF VENGEANCE? Johnny Blaze was bonded with the Spirit of Vengeance. Unwilling to be a monster, Johnny used this demon from Hell to do good as the Ghost Rider. But heroism isn’t what the Rider was meant for. So who will be the new Spirit of Vengeance? And what will it mean for the Marvel Universe?

Marvel Comics press release

From writer (and Ghost rider vet) Benjamin Percy, along with artist Danny Kim, Ghost Rider: Final Vengeance #1 is aiming for a March 13th, 2024 launch. Also worth mentioning, is that while Capullo’s cover will be a variant, Juan Ferreyra will be providing the standard. That one might be more telling as to who that new host is, as we’ve yet to get a glimpse. Stay tuned.
