It’s tough to describe Slave Zero X, but think of it as a 64bit action game you might’ve imagined while in the grip of fever dreams.
The end of all things
Whoa. Okay… so Slave Zero X does indeed remind us of the 32 or 64bit era at first glance. That was the target, as told by developer Poppy Works and Ziggurat Interactive. But as authentic as it does look, it also seems like it makes a sharp turn from what you might’ve played on the Dreamcast, diving into straight horror and more blood and gore than you can shake a severed biomechanical limb at.
Players take the role of a man named Shou in the game, who’s a part of an underground resistance network called The Guardians. The group is revealing against the “tyrannical SovKhan, the ruthless dictator who rules Megacity S1-9 with fists of iron and flesh”. Well that sounds sufficiently disturbing, no?
Turns out that fighting SovKhan isn’t all that easy, which is where a prototype warsuit called the Slave Unit Prototype comes in. The Guardians liberate one from its former owners, and Shou merges with it (which also sounds disturbing, for the record), engaging on a mission to end the big bad guy’s reign for good.
A satisfyingly punishing game, Slave Zero X sees players embody the protagonist, Shou, a member of an underground resistance faction called The Guardians. Vowing revenge and merging with a stolen Slave Unit Prototype, Shou will take up arms and do battle against the violent forces of the tyrannical SovKhan, the ruthless dictator who rules Megacity S1-9 with fists of iron and flesh. The line to his desired vengeance is not a straight one, however – the SovKhan has a bloodthirsty army at his command, ready to take down any who rebel with the snap of his fingers. Players will battle through this biopunk dystopia, slicing and dicing any and all who stand in the way.
