Dr. Eggman, Fang and Trip star in the new animated Sonic Superstars animation

Sega has released a special prolog animation, leading into this fall’s incredible looking new side-scroller, Sonic Superstars.

Here come the villains

Sonic Superstars might be getting lost just a touch in the hype for a certain other mascot character’s latest adventure. If you’re a fan of Sega’s number one son though, or just like quality side-scrollers, it’s most definitely a title to get pumped for.

The game sets players in the familiar 2D world of Sonic the Hedgehog, but with the twist that the graphics are stunningly modern and 3D(ish). If you haven’t seen it in action, click here to check it out, then make your way back to this post to see what Sega’s just released to further hype the game.

That, as you can see from the above headline, is a special animation that serves as a prolog to Superstars. In it, we find Dr. Eggman, Fang the Hunter, and new baddie (?) Trip, battling Sonic and crew and then getting into a little trouble in an ancient temple.

While the trio navigates a perilous ruin, Fang the Hunter will need to muster all his cunning to overcome past mistakes and escape the coils of a fierce new enemy. Meanwhile, Eggman will discover what may be the key to his next dastardly scheme.

Sega press release

Sonic Superstars is up for pre-order now, and releases on October 17th for consoles and the PC. If you’re a big fan, then you might want to consider getting that order in now, as there are a number of pre-order incentives, including “an exclusive in-game LEGO Eggman character skin”.

There’s also a bonus skin for Amy, dubbed the “classic, redefined skin”, which you can get without any pre-purchase whatsoever. All you have to do to get it, is sign up for the Sonic Superstars newsletter.
