Bug-men beware, retro-FPS The Last Exterminator rolls into town (with a demo) next month

Stamping out household pests was never like this, as Ironworks Games’ The Last Exterminator locks and loads for a September demo.

They check in, but they definitely don’t check out

The Last Exterminator, from developer Ironworks Games, debuted at 3D Realms’ yearly showcase not too long ago. Squarely in the ‘retro-FPS’ category, the upcoming shooter proudly draws inspiration from titles like “Doom, Duke 3D, Blood and Quake”, and it indeed looks like it’d fit right in with the era of those iconic games.

That’s not to say that this bug-blasting adventure shares many plot points with them though, because in that way it’s decidedly unique. The game’s actual title isn’t just a clever turn of phrase, as the campaign actually pits players against an army of invading roach-like aliens.

And yes, you do play as an exterminator, one who’s in fact kinda down on her luck. So the sudden appearance of a bunch of space-bugs out to ruin the town and otherwise make a mess of kitchens everywhere… well it might be kind of a welcome sight.

Here’s the latest look at it in action:

The Last Exterminator brings back the adrenaline-fueled carnage of FPS games from the 90s such as DoomDuke 3DBlood and Quake.

You play as Kira Parker, a down-on-her-luck exterminator barely making ends meet. When working a job one night, an alien invasion starts tearing apart the city, and in the crossfire they manage to destroy the only thing that Parker had left; her van. With nothing left to lose, she fights her way through the streets to tackle the invasion head-on, and figure out just what the hell is happening in this city.

If you’re digging what you saw there, and if you’re into retro shooters you probably are, then you’re in luck. As mentioned, you’re going to be able to get your hands on a playable demo for The Last Exterminator, and it’s coming up pretty fast.

FPS fans can expect to be capping some cosmic creeps by way of Steam (on the PC), as of September 28th. And as you might imagine too, wish-listing is open now, via Valve’s platform. As for a full retail launch though, that’s looking like it might still be a ways off, as The Last Exterminator is tagged with “To be announced”.
