You might be used to the ancient gods of Europe being petty and cruel, but El Dorado: The Golden City Builder’s pantheon is just as fickle.
Here comes a smiting
A total of three gods dominate the landscape in Gameparic’s El Dorado: The Golden City Builder. And worshipping them in the right ways could mean life or death for your people. Chac (god of thunder, water, and plants), Ixchel (goddess of the moon, fertility, and destruction), and Itzamna (creator god, ruler of the sky) will require festivals and sacrifices to look upon you favorably. And from the sound of it, just one or two of the latter won’t do.
In the game, you will have to build temples and shrines near houses, make sacrifices to appease the Gods, and protect the village from all dangers. Sacrifices will be made during temple festivals, and the more sacrifices are made, the more favorably the Gods will look upon your civilization.
Gameparic press relase
It’s not set to be all sacrifice though, as astronomy will play a big part in El Dorado. Your priests will need to keep their eyes to the skies, to predict everything from finding resources to attacks from hostile tribes. Don’t forget those famed calendars either, as your fortune tellers will need to craft calendars to want of calamity.
As city-builders go, El Dorado is shaping up to be one to watch. Stay tuned, there’ll be more to come on this one, as it heads towards release later this year on the PC.
If it strikes you as something you might want to try sooner than later too, you might want to take a look at the Steam Playtest and Beta that are coming up. You can get more info on those by hitting the links above.
