Dig into Far Cry 6 for free this weekend

Been waiting to try out Far Cry 6? Now’s your time, as it’s going free to play on all platforms for the weekend, along with getting some slick discounts.

Released in 2021, Far Cry 6 looked to bring players into a Caribbean island dictatorship with yet another standalone, open-world epic. Aside from the new setting, it also introduced yet another terrific villain with “El Presidente” Antón Castillo, played by actor Giancarlo Esposito.

With a break between FC5 and 6 that was about 3 years, a new title this year wasn’t exactly expected. And so it looks like publisher Ubisoft will instead be looking to pull new players into Far Cry 6.

Facilitating that will be a free weekend that’s already kicked off. Available across all platforms (Xbox and PlayStation platforms, Stadia, PC via Ubisoft Store and Epic, plus Ubisoft+ on PC, Stadia and Amazon Luna*), Far Cry 6’s free weekend started today and will run through August 7th (this Sunday).

This is no stripped down version of the game either, as this timed free edition will include all of the free DLC that’s been released to date. And before you ask, yes you’ll keep your progress if you end up playing a bunch and then buying the game after the free period ends.

Speaking of, if you do choose to buy into FC6, you’ll be in for a discount. Just what it is depends on what platform you grab it for.

Here’s what the discounts look like:

• PC via Ubisoft Store: From now until August 16, players can get 60 percent off Standard, Gold and Ultimate editions of the game, 50 percent off the Season Pass and all three DLCs, as well as receive an additional $5 credit in their Ubisoft Store account to use towards their next purchase when they pick up Far Cry 6 during the promotional period. • PC via Epic Games Store: From now until August 8, players can get 60 percent off all editions of the game, and 50 percent off the Season Pass and all three DLCs.
• Xbox: From now until August 15, players can get 60 percent off Standard and Gold editions of the game, and 50 percent off the Season Pass.
• PlayStation: From now until August 17, players can get 55 percent off the Deluxe edition** and 60 percent off the Ultimate edition of the game, as part of PlayStation Store’s Summer Sale.
