PAX announces 2021 return for live and in-person cons

It’s with a hopeful eye that Penny Arcade Expo is looking to 2021. The gaming convention series has announced its slate of cons for next year.

Back to business

I’m sure I don’t have to fill anyone in on what’s happened here in 2020. The year from hell delivered a devastating global pandemic that basically ground the Earth to a halt. In many places that’s still happening, as humanity slowly gets back to normal by way of an oncoming vaccine.

And if that does indeed happen, and we’re all able to return to normalcy in the greater sense, then PAX will indeed be happening. The series of conventions has announced just that as of late last week, and also revealed their hopeful dates for when the individual cons will happen.

Yes, these will be live and in-person, with nary a virtual anything in sight. Again though, that’s if everything works out as it’s currently planned. If not, and there are setbacks in any way, then PAX will indeed handle all of them as they arise.

“While we look forward to hosting shows in 2021, we are first and foremost members of the local communities in Boston, Philadelphia, and Seattle, where we call home,” said Kyle Marsden-Kish, PAX Event Director. “We care deeply for the health and safety of our amazing attendees and industry partners who have brought PAX to life for 17 years. We are cautiously optimistic about improvements in the global COVID-19 situation next year, but we are carefully monitoring the situation to make sure PAX only proceeds if deemed safe to do so.”

So what are the dates? Well…

  •  PAX East will return Thursday, June 3 through Sunday, June 6 to the Boston Convention and Exhibition Center
  • PAX West 2021 will descend on the Washington State Convention Center in Seattle, WA from Friday, Sept. 3 to Monday, Sept. 6
  • PAX Unplugged lights up the Pennsylvania Convention Center in Philadelphia, PA from Friday, Dec. 10 through Sunday, Dec. 12

Notable in the above is that PAX South will not return in ’21. Not to worry if that’s your con though, as it is being targeted for a 2022 reopening. It’s not like you’ll never see it again.

Stay tuned for a ton more on these shows PAX-fans. Penny Arcade Expo says that news on tickets, panels, event scheduling, and lots more is all coming up.
