IDW to adapt Transformers: Beast Wars with new comic

We’re coming up on the 25th anniversary of Transformers: Beast Wars, and publisher IDW is ready to celebrate with a new comic adaptation of the saga.

Of beasts and bots

If you were a G1 Transformers fan in the 90s, you probably fell into the ‘love it or hate is’ camp when it came to Beast Wars. But if the series was your first introduction to the bots from Cybertron, it was likely pure magic.

The show used (at the time) cutting edge computer-generated visuals and sent the Transformers saga into both the far-future, and the distant past. Though most of that overarching story was a mystery for a good chunk of the series, IDW Publishing will be taking full advantage of all of it right from the jump.

Their new comic series will feature stores by Erik Burnham, with art provided by Josh Burcham. It’s set to debut in February.

The Transformers: Beast Wars comic series will welcome fans to a future Cybertron populated by scientific-minded Maximals and action-oriented Predacons. When the successor to the Megatron name steals a golden disk and a ship capable of traveling through time, only Optimus Primal and a team of Maximals — Rattrap, Rhinox, Cheetor, and a new character Nyx — can stop them.

IDW press release

Shipping simultaneously will be multiple variant covers for Beast Wars #1. You can expect to see a cover from series artist Burcham, but also editions from Fico Ossio, Dan Schoening, and Nick Brokenshire. Al of those should be out on shelves this February.

About Jason Micciche

Jason's been knee deep in videogames since he was but a lad. Cutting his teeth on the pixely glory that was the Atari 2600, he's been hack'n'slashing and shoot'em'uping ever since. Mainly an FPS and action guy, Jason enjoys the occasional well crafted title from every genre.
