Sega joins EA’s Origin with Sonic Mania

Sega is coming to EA’s online storefront, kicking things off with Sonic Mania. Expect more to come though, as the deal takes hold.

EA Mania

As PC gamers know, EA’s Origin has been around for a long time. The service is similar to Steam of course, with the exception that it’s a lot more limited in that there are no ‘indies’ represented, and there aren’t many publishers outside of EA included.

This week though, you can add one more, and it’s a big one. Iconic gaming publisher Sega is joining Origin, bringing Sonic Mania as its first offering. And if you’re a fan of the Blue Blur, then you know that name well. Mania was easily the best Sonic title in years.

Developed by Christian Whitehead, Headcannon and PagodaWest Games in collaboration with SEGA of America, Sonic Mania™celebrates the best of Classic Sonic, pushing the envelope forward with stunning 60 FPS gameplay and pixel-perfect physics. Players can experience explosively fast speeds as Sonic, soar as Tails, or power through tough obstacles with Knuckles’ brute strength. With an exciting new twist on classic zones, players can relive their favorite Sonic moments while fighting new bosses and Dr. Eggman’s evil robot army.

The game is posted right now for purchase, or if you’re an Origin Access Premier subscriber, you can actually just download and start playing, since it’s included. If you’re not, and you’d like to pick up a copy, it’ll run you $19.99 USD.

As for what might be next, Sega has already confirmed that Two Point Hospital and Endless Legend are on the way.

About Jason Micciche

Jason's been knee deep in videogames since he was but a lad. Cutting his teeth on the pixely glory that was the Atari 2600, he's been hack'n'slashing and shoot'em'uping ever since. Mainly an FPS and action guy, Jason enjoys the occasional well crafted title from every genre.
