Free Comic Book Day 2020 postponed

Diamond has pulled the trigger on postponement for Free Comic Book Day. In light of the coronavirus pandemic, it’s been nudged to summer.

Free, but later

For those unaware, Free Comic Book Day continues to be a pretty neat little comic-themed holiday. On FCBD, fans can head to their local comic shops and grab selections of free comics, put out by publishers.

The event is hosted by comic distributor Diamond, and is usually a favorite. This year though, it’s taking a backseat to the current pandemic circling the globe. In the realm of understandable things to postpone an event over, this is pretty much right at the top.

“The severity and timing of the impact of the COVID-19 virus can’t be predicted with any certainty, but the safety of our retailer partners and comic book fans is too important to risk. As always, we appreciate your enthusiasm for and support of the comic industry’s best event and look forward to celebrating with you later in the Summer,”

Diamond Founder and CEO, Steve Geppi

So again, this doesn’t mean that there won’t be a FCBD happening in 2020. It’s just that you’ll have to wait til some time over the summer to enjoy. And I assume if that timetable proves a little too optimistic, we’ll see a shift for it into the autumn.

Let’s all hope this misery is done with by then.
