FAO teams up with Super7 for ‘Super Shogun’ Optimus Prime

Toy-maker Super7 has a massive ‘Super Shogun’ Optimus Prime figure on the way, and it’s set to be available at select stores only, like FAO Schwarz.

Till all are Super

You might think of Mattel more often when talking about Super7’s partner companies, but they actually work with Hasbro as well.

Now you can add something brand new to the mix, when it comes to the Robots in Disguise. The Super Shogun Optimus Prime is a massive collector figure, and it’s aimed at a high end market.

Prime is a throwback in two distinct ways. For one thing, the designation itself is actually from a classic line of Japanese robot figures. According to Super7, they’re some incredibly expensive collectibles at this point.

And the second distinction? Well, that’d be a nod to the very first action figure that Super7 made here in the US. If you don’t remember, it was a Super Shogun Stormtrooper (from Star Wars).

Prime

Prime has all the Super Shogun bells and whistles. And yes, that includes a removable Matrix.

  • The design is inspired by the 1970’s Shogun Warriors toy line.
  • Super Shogun Optimus Prime will be G1-era accurate paint job and detailing.
  • Three points of articulation.
  • Features wheels on feet for rolling combat action.
  • Armed with a spring-loaded, “rocket firing” left fist.
  • Removable Ion Blaster.
  • Chest opens to reveal removable Matrix of Leadership.
  • Will include sticker sheet for customizable display.

“FAO Schwarz is known for having extraordinary, one-of-a-kind toys, so we couldn’t be more thrilled to partner with Super7 on the Super Shogun TRANSFORMERS Optimus Prime PreOrder.” said David Niggli, Chief Merchandise Officer of FAO Schwarz. “We have long loved Super7 and supported their unique line of TRANSFORMERS figures so we know our customers and fans will be thrilled to have access to this fan favorite collectors’ Super Shogun.”

While Prime will be available at FAO exclusively when it comes to brick and mortar stores, you’ll actually have a few different ways to get him. Online retailers like BBTS, Polyphony, and Entertainment Earth will all stock the figure.

Super7 will have him as well, and is taking pre-orders right now. Wherever you buy him from, Optimus Prime will be shipping out some time this winter. He will run you $350 USD.
