Samurai Showdown draws swords today

Sharpen your katana. The SNK fighting game classic returns today, with a fresh reboot that brings the series back to its roots.

Showdown

If you remember the 90s, then you remember Samurai Showdown. One of the biggest arcade fighting titles from a lot that included Capcom’s Street Fighter II and Midway’s Mortal Kombat series, Samurai Shown was one off SNK’s best.

King of Fighters might get more press now, but back in those days, Showdown was where it was at. And now it’s back.

The new Samurai Showdown sports the same 2D style as previous entries, though it looks a heck of a lot sharper. It’s almost reminiscent of the current Street Fighter titles, though maybe a little more cartoony. Maybe.

Not that the blood isn’t back, ’cause it is. Samurai Showdown is just as bloody as it’s ever been. Have a look.

Showdown is available right now on the Xbox One and PS4. There’s a special deal too, in effect for the rest of this month. If you pick up a copy of the game from now until the 30th, you’ll automatically get the Season Pass for free.

The Pass includes 4 new characters with Rimururu, Basara, Kazuki Kazama, and Wan-Fu.

About Jason Micciche

Jason's been knee deep in videogames since he was but a lad. Cutting his teeth on the pixely glory that was the Atari 2600, he's been hack'n'slashing and shoot'em'uping ever since. Mainly an FPS and action guy, Jason enjoys the occasional well crafted title from every genre.
