Frogwares talks storytelling in The Sinking City

Cthulhu-inspired terror is coming back in a big way with The Sinking City from Frogwares. This new trailer shows you some behind the scenes moments.

Sinking feeling

It’s always interesting to see a little bit of the process that goes into creating a game. And that’s maybe even a little more the case, when you’re talking story, and the methods to tell one in a game. After all, it’s usually technical elements that are shown off in videos like this one.

I think we’re at a point where fans might be used to seeing mini-docs about world-building, graphics styles, and the like. But seeing what went into the narrative of a game? That’s a little different.

This is one horror title that’s looking sharp too. An open-world title, The Sinking City is ambitious, sending players down a soggy, elder god-infused rabbit hole. Much like previous Cthulhu themed stuff too, The Sinking City looks like it’ll have copious amounts of sane/insane moments. That’s something that should play nicely into the subject matter.

Having that open world though, ripe for exploration, is something entirely new for anything building off of the Lovecraft mythos. And I can’t remember too many Cthulhu titles having NPCs that you can actually talk to and interact with. That’s going to be interesting.

I’m no horror fan, but I have to admit I’m pretty excited for this one. There’s no release date as of yet, but The Sinking City will be coming to the Xbox One, PS4, and PC.
