Kongregate Expands to Release Games on Steam

Kongregate expands from browser based and mobile to Steam

Kongregate is a company well known for publishing games for mobile and websites. It has been around for quite some time, turning ten years old just earlier this month. However, in a recent development, the company has decided to expand and diversify its library. First and foremost, it has decided to begin released games on Steam. Its award winning Slashy Hero, developed by Gentle Bros, has already been released. What is more, the card game Spellstone is also scheduled for a Steam release.

Emily Greer, president and co-founder of Kongregate, explained the company’s recent move. While mobile gaming is growing rapidly, it was discovered that 70% of their player base use multiple platforms. She clarified that they this meant that PC was still viable for gaming, and that Steam would let them support even more developers.

To top it all off, Kongregate has announced a new SDK, or devkit, that will benefit both players and devs. Developers will be able to use the SDK to monitor information about their games across platforms. Meanwhile, it will permit players to transfer save data from platform to platform. It’s a very interesting concept as is the whole thing. I spent a lot of time playing games on Kongregate when I was younger. It’s interesting to see this new direction for them.
