Yes folks, we’ve reached the summit of humanity according to Valiant Comics. They’ve debuted a line of variant comic book covers that can only be called ‘cat cosplay’.
It’s like cosplay, but with cats
What’s cat cosplay, you ask? Well obviously you haven’t looked at the accompanying images for this story, so I’ll fill you in. These special variant covers to a wave of upcoming books from Valiant Comics have photos of cats on them.
These aren’t just any pictures of cats though, these are cosplay pictures of cats. And that means that all the kitties present are dressed in the costumes of Valiant’s greatest heroes. You heard me.
“This might be the single best thing anyone anywhere has done, ever,” said Valiant Assistant Editor Lauren Hitzhusen. “All of Valiant’s numerous accomplishments – the biggest debut of a new publisher in more than a decade, the best reviews in the industry, a record-setting 50 nominations at this year’s Harvey Awards – pale in comparison to the glory that you now behold before you. But, all joking aside… No, really, this is the best.”
And there you have it. Now, I have to admit, these are kind of neat. The costumes were made by the folks at the Cat Cosplay of the Feline Variety blog, and they did the photos as well. And they’ve done a masterful job, which would only be more impressive if no one was maimed or killed getting the cats in to the costumes. Personally, I have my doubts.
Anyway, the covers will adorn the ten best-selling books in Valiant’s stable, which include:
- A&A: THE ADVENTURES OF ARCHER & ARMSTRONG #10
- BLOODSHOT U.S.A. #3 (of 4)
- BRITANNIA #4 (of 4)
- DIVINITY III: STALINVERSE #1 (of 4)
- FAITH #6
- GENERATION ZERO #5
- HARBINGER RENEGADES #2
- NINJAK #22
- SAVAGE #2 (of 4)
- WRATH OF THE ETERNAL WARRIOR #14
Sales of these feline heroes will benefit a good cause
While all this cat-talk might be funny, it’s for a good cause. Sales of the specially-covered comics (available in unlimited quantities for comic shops) will go to the Brooklyn Animal Rescue Coalition (BARC).
Based in Williamsburg, Brooklyn, the BARC is a no-kill shelter for both cats and dogs. They give safe-haven to animals who’ve been abandoned, and provide “quality food, shelter, medical attention, and the love they deserve”, while the little guys and gals await adoption. See? Good cause.
The special event covers will appear this coming December. And while they’re meant to be available to as many fans as want them, you might want to make sure your local comics shop has these issues on your pull list, just in case. Missing out would be a cat-astrophy after all.
