MadCatz announces modular, customizable R.A.T. 1

The excellent line of R.A.T. gaming mice continues with MadCatz’ R.A.T. 1.

Just when you though the RAT line couldn’t get any cooler, we get the RAT 1, possibly the most customizable mouse ever made for retail audiences. If you’re not familiar with the name, you should be, as MacCatz has been making some of the coolest PC gaming mice out there.

And with this one, the latest in the series, I can’t see as there’s anything else that you could feasibly want from a mouse. The RAT 1 features “an innovative modular design, 3D printing and personalization options that enables users to truly make it their own.” What’s that mean? Well, basically you can play with it as it comes, or 3D print your own parts and make it truly a custom piece of equipment.

The RAT 1 has three components that you can switch up and change out to suit your tastes; the Tripod Chassis, the Sensor Module, and an Adjustable Palm Rest.

Ultra-lightweight and made from the same materials used in Mad Catz’ tournament-grade gaming mice, the R.A.T. ¹  Tripod Chassis provides a high-strength frame for its module components. Seated inside the Tripod Chassis, an adjustable 3500DPI optical Pixart PMW3320 gaming-grade Sensor Module provides the brain of the R.A.T.¹. Instantly detachable from the Tripod Chassis, the Sensor Module can be used by itself as a remarkably compact laptop mouse or re-joined to chassis to form a strikingly attractive desktop mouse. For those seeking even more personalization options, the R.A.T.¹ is the world’s first gaming mouse that empower users to use a 3D Printer to create their own customized Palm Rest.
