Not due in theaters till early next year, the film adaptation of Pride and Prejudice and Zombies looks to have quite a bite.
A zombie outbreak has fallen upon the land in this reimagining of Jane Austen’s classic tale of the tangled relationships between lovers from different social classes in 19thcentury England. Feisty heroine Elizabeth Bennet (Lily James) is a master of martial arts and weaponry and the handsome Mr. Darcy (Sam Riley) is a fierce zombie killer, yet the epitome of upper class prejudice. As the zombie outbreak intensifies, they must swallow their pride and join forces on the blood-soaked battlefield in order to conquer the undead once and for all.
I really can’t tell if this is supposed to be tongue-in-cheek or not. It kind of looks like a straight-up action/horror thing, and pretty cool too. If that’s the case then I was waaaaaay off, since I never read the book, and sort of thought it was pure satire.
Though now that I think about it, Abe Lincoln, Vampire Hunter was satire as well, but managed to pull off a pretty ‘serious’ action flick, so who knows. Very interesting indeed though, and PPZ looks like one to keep an eye on for horror fans.
Pride and Prejudice and Zombies hits theaters on February 5th, 2016.
