Finally, we have a PS4 release date for Rise of the Tomb Raider! Well, not exactly a release date, but they did say it would release Holiday 2016. The game will also come to PC “early” 2016.
Rise of the Tomb Raider’s timed exclusivity announcement stirred some controversy last year, especially because Crystal Dynamics dodged many of the PlayStation release questions. It was a major play by Microsoft and the Xbox division, but it’s hard to say how this will affect system sales at all.
While Rise of the Tomb Raider’s predecessor did very well, it’s hard to project people purchasing the Xbox One solely for this game. Halo 5 will also release this Holiday and will likely be a greater factor for increased Xbox One sales; nonetheless, more Xbox One consoles sold means more Xbox One games sold too, including Rise of the Tomb Raider. Crystal Dynamics might lose the most with delaying PlayStation release and die-hard fans will have to patient. The way I see it, at least it’s not just a console exclusive.
