Civil War had a whole mess of people on both sides when it came to the fan base, and it was a huge story when it comes to the history of the Marvel U. This version is even bigger though, as this war never ended…
“The primary word I would use to describe this story is “big”,” says writer Charles Soule in an interview with Marvel.com. “It takes the premise of the original – a superhero-focused internal battle – and expands it out to deliver the promise of the title. In this new story, the Civil Wars has been going on for a long time, and it involves all of use – the entire country – not just the superheroes. Without a doubt this is the biggest thing I’ve ever done as far as story-scale. Lord of the Rings-style battles, almost every character you saw in the original Civil War plus more…I feel terrible for poor Leinil Yu for having to draw all this stuff…(no I don’t, it will be totally worth it.)”
What is the top-secret Project Bellcurve and does it hold the key to ending the war in one swift stroke? What damning data could undo President Stark’s administration from within? And worst of all – what unseen enemies seek to exploit the Superhuman Civil War for their own gains? Find out one of the biggest stories in Marvel history is reborn on Battleworld in CIVIL WAR #1! Whose side are you on?
I’m really looking forward to this one. I wasn’t a fan of the original event book either, so keep that in mind, but I think this particular retelling has tons of potential. Carrying Civil War on in another part of the multiverse where the war escalated to include average people and actually kicked off a second inter-American war? That’s just too cool for school. And the fact that Cap didn’t ‘die’ is pretty awesome too, as that was always a development that stuck in my craw.
Oh, and that cover is awesome. All kinds of awesome.
From Charles Soule, with both interior art and cover work by Leinil Yu, Civil War #1 is on the way to the racks for this coming July.
