Pixels trailer brings the horror of Pac Man to life

Think Pac Man’s a good guy? Think again, as this trailer for the upcoming Adam Sandler movie Pixels clearly shows.

In Pixels, when intergalactic aliens misinterpret video-feeds of classic arcade games as a declaration of war against them, they attack the Earth, using the games as models for their various assaults. President Will Cooper (Kevin James) has to call on his childhood best friend, ’80s video game champion Sam Brenner (Adam Sandler), now a home theater installer, to lead a team of old-school arcaders (Peter Dinklage and Josh Gad) to defeat the aliens and save the planet. Joining them is Lt. Col. Violet Van Patten (Michelle Monaghan), a specialist supplying the arcaders with unique weapons to fight the aliens.

I really can’t decide if Pixels could be super-fun or super-horrible. Either way though, this trailer is kinda neat. Of course, I’m an old school game fan, so a lot of that ‘like’ might be just the golden light of nostalgia talking.

It is undeniably fun though, to see the likes of Pac Man, Donkey Kong (I can’t believe Nintendo agreed to have him appear btw), and others recreated in that neat pixley style. As for the film itself, well, we’ll see I guess. Sony Pictures’ Pixels, starring Adam Sandler and Kevin James, opens in theaters on July 24th.
