Treyarch to develop the next Call of Duty title, mystery title also in the works

In case you were wondering, Activision has confirmed that the longtime Call of Duty developer Treyarch is indeed working on the next game in the series.

Sure, it was probably a foregone conclusion for most gamers, since Activision has been using a tandem system of development for the yearly Call of Duty franchise for a good long while now, but this is the confirmation of the fact (in case you needed one). There is a bit of a twist to the formula though, in the fact that there are apparently three CoD devs at the moment, with Treyarch, Sledgehammer Games, and Infinity Ward and it appears that there are at least two titles in the works.

For now, what’s official is that Treyarch is building the next installment, and a source close to development (according to website MCV) has named that game as a sequel to the WWII title, World at War. It’s been tumored for a while that CoD would be heading back to the battlefield of the second great war for a while, so if true, that should come as a surprise to no one. More interesting though, is that Activision has also confirmed that there is another ‘top team’ hard at work on yet another CoD game.

When we might be seeing that game (this year?) and just who that team is is still a mystery. If it is Infinity Ward, then might we be seeing sequels to Word at War and IW’s Ghosts this Holiday, with a second Advanced Warfare arriving in 2016? Stay tuned, we’ll have more for you on this as soon as anything breaks.
