The little goblin thief from Cyanide Studios’ sneak-tastic action/RPG Styx: Master of Shadows is looking pretty impressive in his first trailer.
Set in the human/elven held Tower of Akenash, the trailer shows off a whole bunch of the gameplay mechanics that’ll make Styx: Master of Shadows really different from almost everything else in the genre. For the first time that I can remember in an action/RPG, the player-character is not only a thief who’s more about being slinky than facing his foes head-on (we’ve seen that before) but he’s a straight-up goblin too- and one that’s 200 some odd years old to boot. That’s gotta be a first, no?
You won’t just be facing elves and humans as you climb towards your eventual goal either as you’ll get to evade and combat orcs who’ve been victimized by elven experiments and “other, stranger creatures” as well. Just what those might be is still under wraps, but the ‘beastiary’ already is sounding pretty cool. If you’re a fantasy fan it’s definitely a setup that’s outside of the norm too, which is nice to see as most games set in Tolkien-esque fantasy worlds tend to be cut of the same cloth.
Get your sneaking shoes ready. Styx: Master of Shadows should be on the way to the PC sometime this year from Cyanide Studio.
