Cataclysm: The Ultimates Last Stand #3 (Comics) Preview

Ultimate Spider-Man and Reed Richards break through to the main Marvel Universe to rally help dealing with Galactus, but instead of saving the Ultimate Universe, the pair just might become refugees.

The fate of the entire Ultimate Universe lies in the hands two very unlikely champions this January in CATACLYSM: THE ULTIMATES’ LAST STAND #3! From the blockbuster creative team of Brian Michael Bendis and Mark Bagley – the Ultimates know Galactus is not of their universe, and they’re willing to do anything to stop him! Including sending Miles Morales and Ultimate Reed Richards into the Marvel Universe for help! But has Reed redeemed himself in this time of crisis – or is he only out for himself?

“This is the first time we really get to see Ultimate characters explore the Marvel Universe,” said Senior Editor Mark Paniccia. “It won’t be a picnic and will have emotional ramifications for one of the travelers.”

Well this is getting pretty interesting. Marvel seems like they’re really turning up the heat with the Cataclysm storyline (and that cover doesn’t look too good for the Ultimate X-Men). Honestly, I’ve never even been a fan of the Ultimate comics in any way and even I’m interested in seeing what the ‘real’ Galactus has in store for them.

There’s also been this persistent rumor that the Ultimate Spidey (Miles Morales) is going to make the jump to the Marvel U permanently and clash with Superior Spider-Man (who is of course secretly Doctor Octopus). Seeing that the third issue of cataclysm places him right there certainly adds something to that thought.

It’s also been forever and a day since we’ve really seen a Galactus storyline in Marvel’s books and it’s kind of good to see the big guy back. Having him return in an alternate universe was also a great idea as Bendis can pretty much do whatever he likes with the character- maybe even have him assimilate the Ultimate Earth.

Look for Cataclysm: The Ultimates’ Last Stand #3 to hit the stands on January 8th.
