Betrayer announced for PC, coming this month

From some of the same guys that brought some of the biggest PC games of all time to players, Blackpowder Games’ Betrayer takes gamers back to the days before America was, well, America.

Betrayer washes you ashore in the New World in 1604, where you’re expecting to join a struggling English colony on the Virginia coast. Instead you find only ghosts and mysteries in a land drained of color and life. You’ll build up an arsenal of weaponry including muskets, crossbows and throwing axes, collecting untold treasures along the way. Chart your own course through an untamed wilderness teeming with danger and discovery as you search for survivors and unravel the colony’s many mysteries, including the identity of the strange, silent woman in red who helps from afar.

I love the premise and Betrayer sounds amazingly original, but I could definitely see the visuals throwing off some gamers. It’s very different looking and, dare I say it- artistic?

In any event, the game is scheduled to be released this month on Steam as a part of the platform’s Early Access program. Betrayer runs off  of the Unreal Engine 3 and actually has a pretty great pedigree since Gunpowder Games was founded by ex-Monolith members. Monolith, of course, is responsible for massive titles like No One Lives Forever and the FEAR series. And both of those were worked on by Gunpowder team members.

About Jason Micciche

Jason's been knee deep in videogames since he was but a lad. Cutting his teeth on the pixely glory that was the Atari 2600, he's been hack'n'slashing and shoot'em'uping ever since. Mainly an FPS and action guy, Jason enjoys the occasional well crafted title from every genre.
